Five persons were killed and eight injured after a high-tension power transmission tower collapsed in Shikrawa village in Mewat district of haryana. All the deceased and the injured were migrant labourers from West Bengal. Police have booked the project manager and site engineers of the company for negligence.

The incident took place in Shikrawa village near Punhana block in Mewat district, around 80km from Gurgaon around 10.30am on 28-03-2013 when the work of 765kV electricity transmission from Gurgaon to Agra was on in full swing. Around 150 labourers were at work on the two towers when one of them collapsed. Three workers were crushed to death on the spot while two succumbed to their injuries in hospital. The other injured have been admitted to Al-Afia government hospital in Mandi Khera in Nuh.

According to police, those killed have been identified as 20-year-old Munilal Harman, 22-year-old Mukhtarul Momin, 25-year-old Isrile Momin, 23-year-old Rintu Sheikh and 21-year-old Sabirul Sheikh, all from Malda district of West Bengal.

A police source said the incident was a result of negligence and haste, because the company running the project wanted to finish the work by March 31. The injured were identified as Ajay, Afzal, Mohammad Farikh, Salim Sheikh, Heera, Matreku Alam, Gul Mohammad and Chintu.

No officer of the company running the project reached the spot till evening. However, after getting the information, Jitender Gahlawat, DSP, Nuh, Trilok Chand, SDM, Nuh, Devender Singh, SHO, Punhana police station, Nayab Tehsildar Mohanlal were on the spot and rushed the injured to hospital.

"We have lodged an FIR against the project manager and site engineers under Sections 304 and 34 of the IPC and are investigating their possible foul play," Sukhbir Singh, Senior Superintendent of police, Mewat, said.
