Uttarakhand dams: Six new projects await apex court review

In August 2013, the Supreme Court (SC) asked the government to find out if existing and under-construction hydroelectric projects had contributed to the June 2013 disaster in Uttarakhand, where thousands had perished. It banned the Centre and the state government from clearing any new projects till this assessment was done.

Kudankulam power cheaper than U.S. proposals: Russia

A week after U.S. President Barack Obama's visit cleared major hurdles in the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal, Russian officials say the power generated under the agreements will be much more expensive than the negotiated deals with Russia for the "Kudankulam series."
