CERC ruling on Tata Power and adani to lead to retail tariff hike: ICRA

The Central power regulator's order providing relief for Tata Power's Mundra project will result in retail tariffs for the five beneficiary states moving up by 3-10 paise per unit, rating firm ICRA said. Last week, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) allowed higher tariff as well as a compensation of Rs 329.45 crore for the private utility's 4,000-MW project in Gujarat operated by its unit Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd (CGPL).

Bailout for gas-based power plants on the anvil

The central government is considering a bailout package for gas-based power plants that includes ensuring that cash-strapped state power distribution companies continue to buy electricity from them after a scheduled increase in price of the fuel kicks in on 1 April, making available power from plants that are idling for want of the fuel, and a new repayment plan for a few other idle power plants.

MSEDCL seeks power tariff hike to plug revenue gap

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) filed a plea before the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), seeking a tariff hike to bridge its revenue deficit in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
