COAL PRICES HIKES

The Power Ministry has suggested to the Coal Ministry that the difference in cost of imported and domestic coal should be added to the cost of indigenous fuel at the time of finalising proposal for pooling coal prices. The ministry has conveyed its comments on pooling of coal prices to the Ministry of Coal, which is preparing a Cabinet note on the proposal, to be floated at the earliest.

Tata Power's wholly owned subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd (CGPL) has discontinued supply to the distributing companies of Rajasthan from its 4,000 MW ultra-mega power project (UMPP) at Mundra, Gujarat.

The step follows several CGPL notices to the discoms required under the purchase agreements, thereby effectively terminating its contract.

Tata Power on on Monday said it has synchronized another 800 MW unit at the Mundraultra mega power project, taking the utility's overall generation capacity to 7,699 MW. 

The country's largest power producer is developing the 4,000 MW Mundra UMPP in Gujarat and has synchronised the fourth 800 MW unit at the plant. 

With this, the total power generation capacity of Tata Power stands at 7,699 MW, Tata Power said in a statement. 

Out of the total capacity, thermal power accounts for 6,847 MW.

Gaffney power plant sold for $427million

Broad River Energy Center, an 847-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant in Gaffney, was sold for $427 million toEnergy Capital Partners LLC, according to Calpine Corp., the former owner.

The plant began operations in 2000 and provides electricity to Carolina Power & Light Co., a subsidiary of Duke Energy, according to a news release from Calpine.

The sale was approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Dec. 18.
